Daniel Awduche, ISOCORE "Characterization and Representation of Impairments for Routing in All-Optical Networks"

Abstract:

The application of GMPLS control plane techniques for connection management in switched all-optical networks must contend with a number of technical challenges imposed by optical transmission impairments and related characteristics, which introduce additional constraints on optical layer routing.

This presentation explores various approaches to characterizing, simplifying, and representing optical impairments for routing and path control in switched all-optical networks. We explain the tradeoffs involved in the simplification of impairment characteristics, and develop a set of rules for reducing the complexity of impairment aware routing.
