The IETF and ITU have each defined protocols for the control of optical networks. While the approaches taken in the development of these protocols are different, there are a number of items in common between the two. This presentation discusses the approaches taken, the items in common, and the items that are different. Functional components discussed include neighbor discovery, path computation architectures, and connection signaling.
