Daniel Awduche has worked in various technical leadership and management positions over the past decade. Presently, he leads MCI's Internet Engineering organization in Ashburn (VA), responsible for network engineering of MCI's public IP network (previously known as UUNET), which is one of the largest IP networks in the world. Dr. Awduche is notable for championing the development and standardization of MPLS traffic engineering technology and pioneering the concept of multiprotocol lambda switching, which is now called Generalized MPLS (GMPLS). He has served as a Guest Editor of the Proceedings of the IEEE (September 2002, Special Issue on "Internet Technology and the Convergence of Communications Services"). He has also served as Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC, October 2004, Special Issue on "Advances in Metropolitan Optical Networks"). Dr. Awduche's academic background includes the M.S. degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from George Mason University. He is a Senor Member of the IEEE.
